The famous AIR is one of the parts of the 3rd orchestral suite in D major - BWV 1068. The suite was written by Bach between 1717 and 1723 for his employer Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Köthen. The name AIR originally comes from the word ARIA which means a vocal piece. From the 18th century on, AIR is a purely instrumental and lyrically played piece.
